As a part of an extended Xbox Games Showcase that streamed overnight we got a new look at Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II as presented by Ninja Theory chief Tameem Antoniades. Who goes on to outline a truly ambitious game currently in development.

According to Tameem the the team is currently creating a large slice of the game which it will use as a basis to expand into full production. The game's story is set in ninth century Iceland and the team has been in the region capturing images and photogrametry and combining this with satellite data to recreate a vast region of the country -- digitally.

Technology-wise the team is working closely with Epic, presumable on Unreal Engine 5, to push the visuals into new territory. On the character front Ninja Theory is going the high-quality movie route by creating detailed costumes and scanning those into the game. Combat is also getting an overhaul, with the main actress having trained for two years to heighten the realism and brutality.

Even the animators have undergone combat training. Very cool.

"Hellblade was very special to us and we didn't want to do a straight sequel," Tameem says. "We wanted to do something extra special, so we are making our lives as difficult as possible in that pursuit."

It definitely sounds like a lot more than a straight sequel, it sounds incredible and we can't wait to hear more about it.
