Diablo II: Resurrected on track for release later this year -
and shaping up wonderfully - the next
Diablo III update is looking to pay homage to that classic with new powerful items. Although a start date for Season 24 has yet to be announced, the latest PTR patch notes outline the arrival of 'Ethereal Items' - "21 iconic weapons from Diablo II making a return".
Here's the scoop.
Ethereals will roll a powerful set of affixes, a random Class Weapon Legendary Power and a random Class Passive Power. Ethereals will have unique icons, names, item types, and sounds originally found in Diablo II.
Icons, sounds, and names pulled from Diablo II? Very cool. Ethereals are set to be fairly rare too, with a drop rate set between Ancient and Primal items, and can only drop from monsters, chests, and destructibles -- meaning you can't Cube them or get them from Kadala. Adding to the rarity they'll be account bound and will only drop in Seasonal play.
With 21 in total each Class is set to be getting 3 unique Ethereals and they'll drop with fixed affixes in addition to the random powers and passives. Also, you'll only be able to have one equipped at any time. In terms of design they're very different to Legendary Items in that they can't be enchanted (though they will be able to be augmented to boost base stats).
