'Van Buren' was the codename given to the Fallout 2 sequel that was being developed by Black Isle Studios until its cancellation in 2003. Naturally we all know the story from there, Bethesda Game Studios picked up the mantle with the excellent Fallout 3. Still, the question of 'what if' remained -- and now a group of modders are planning to answer exactly that.

With a new Fallout: New Vegas mod called Revelation Blue -- an alternate timeline Fallout 3. Here's the teaser.

The project is very much work-in-progress, but the team plans to stay faithful to the original Van Buren story -- which would have seen the action take place in 2253, with players taking on the role of an escaped prisoner. With the setting being the American southwest.

It's worth noting that the reason for using New Vegas as the source comes from that game's connection to Van Buren. With Obsidian made up of Fallout-vets, Van Buren elements like Caesar's Legion, the Hoover Dam location, and companions like Joshua Graham all came from Van Buren designs.
