Games with a cyberpunk aesthetic might not be as rare as they once were, and in most cases a retro-future style is pretty much all we need to take a look. Moon Samurai a "2D pixel-graphics action adventure game set in cyberpunk universe" fits the bill, but does so with some impressive animation to boot.
And with two of the inspirations behind this being Prince of Persia and Double Dragon, that's probably the best way to describe how it looks in action.
The setting? RAM City Megapolis. The location? The moon. The year? 2070. You take control of Buddy on his mission to escape prison and find freedom. And amongst it all is a tale about stopping six samurai from taking control of the city. Featuring platforming and beat-em up action, the animation here is impressively detailed -- adding quite a bit of character to the pixel-art. Moon Samurai is also set to feature a number of cinematic sequences too.
Moon Samurai is currently in development by Nunchaku Games, a small indie outfit based in Saint Petersburg, Russia -- with the goal being to create an ode to all the good things born from the 80s and 90s. Retro games, martial arts movies, and the cyberpunk genre. Yeah, sign us up.
Moon Samurai is coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mac with a release window TBC.
