In the PC space Discord
is something of a mainstay, with the communication and chat platform a staple in the modern PC gaming diet -- featuring over 140 million users. And with Sony acquiring a minority stake in Discord, today comes word that the platform and its features will be integrated into the PlayStation
ecosystem beginning next year.
As per this post from PlayStation head Jim Ryan, efforts are already underway to connect Discord into the PlayStation Network. "Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together," he writes.
Discord is definitely hot property right now, with a recent acquisition offer from Microsoft for $10 billion was declined in order for it to remain independent. This deal with Sony keeps Discord as is, whilst also showcasing Sony's seriousness in making the social, chat, and party systems on PlayStation best in class.
