Rumours have been swelling for some time now that a remake of the classic Star Wars RPG Knight of the Old Republic is in the works. Today comes word from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier (via the MinnMax podcast) that the studio behind the project is Aspyr.

A studio that has ported quite a number of classic Star Wars games, including KOTOR, in recent years.

The key word here of course is 'remake', pointing to a project bigger in scope than a remaster ala EA and BioWare's upcoming re-release of the Mass Effect trilogy with Mass Effect Legendary Edition. The remake project will apparently expand the original to include content from both KOTOR games too.

In terms of the developer, Aspyr is an interesting choice as the studio is more known for bringing titles like Republic Commando, Episode I Racer, and the Jedi Knight series to platforms like the Nintendo Switch.

Either way the news that Knights Of The Old Republic is coming back is definitely cause for excitement as it still remains on the best Star Wars things of all time.
