Last year saw Ubisoft's The Division 2 see its highest activity in terms of player engagement with the franchise (including the first outing) crossing the 40 million unique players milestone. So instead of wrapping up production or simply keeping the lights on, teams at Ubisoft Massive and Ubisoft Bucharest are working on "a game mode that is entirely new to the franchise".

According to a new developer update, key Division developers are remaining on the game where new progression systems and build variety and other good stuff is being worked on too. This renewed development on The Division 2 means that everything is still in the early stages -- with a late 2021 release at the earliest for the new game mode.

With Seasons and the last game mode 'The Summit' the next few months will see re-runs of previous Seasons to give players a chance to grab rewards and collectibles they might have missed out on, alongside patches that focus on stability.
