GAME TRIVIA - Did You Know?
The earliest test version of
Space Invaders wasn't space-themed at all? Instead of advancing UFOs, the game featured military vehicles and soldiers, however, the higher-ups at
Taito -- the publisher-developer of Space Invaders -- didn't want anything that depicted or glorified war. Funnily enough the space them was then added, though it came off the back of
Star Wars' popularity and subsequent infiltration into
Japanese pop-culture.
