Following on from the launch of the flagship AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT launch from last year, in addition to releasing the latest in AMD Ryzen processor technology and creating the hardware that powers both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, today we’ve got the announcement of the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. The latest Radeon GPU -- designed to offer up incredible 1440p performance.


1440p or QHD is currently seen as the sweet-spot for PC gamers, with many modern displays targeting this resolution with high refresh-rates and low response times - as seen in the MSI Optix-MAG274QRF-QD display which offers up 165Hz and a 1ms GTG.

Featuring RDNA 2 specific technology like AMD Infinity Cache (additional cache as seen in the CPU space to improve memory bandwidth and streaming), AMD Smart Access Memory (which is now being extended to include Ryzen 3000 series CPUs), and support for DirectX 12 Ultimate technology like DXR ray-tracing. For those wondering about AMD’s answer to DLSS, there was no real news relating to its Super Resolution feature in the presentation other than it’s still on the cards.

The Radeon RX 6700XT also comes equipped with 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM and 40 Compute Units (the RX 6800 XT has 80) and is positioned as a direct competitor to both NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070. As per the following internal benchmarks, it is indeed a 1440p powerhouse across many modern titles.


Though it’s worth noting that the above figures are based on enabling AMD’s frame-rate boost (i.e. overclocking) and Smart Access Memory -- so the real-world comparisons across varying hardware setups might vary. Either way the listed GPU clock speeds of 2424 MHz is, well, fast. In addition to the above, more competitive fare like Overwatch, League of Legends, and Rainbow Six Siege will be able to push well over 200-fps at max settings at 1440p. Impressive, especially when paired with AMD’s suite of latency and FidelityFX features.

The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT is set to launch March 18 for $479 USD (which puts it between the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070 price-wise), with AMD noting that it will have more GPUs available for launch this time around alongside a suite of AIB cards from partners like ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, and others.
