Proteus, described as "a first-person shooter of old, re-imagined using modern rendering techniques" has hit Early Access - available now on Steam. Featuring the pacing of the modern DOOM re-imagining, Proteus also features retro-style visuals that adhere to the "aesthetic technical limits of older hardware".
And it looks fantastic in motion.
The Early Access version features a 3-5 hour single-player campaign with the roadmap set to receive more weapons, full editor tools, and multiplayer support as it moves towards version 1.0. The level editor will become a key part of the game offering players the chance to jump into creations quickly from in-game.
It also features a heavy metal soundtrack from Andrew Hulshult who recently scored the first DOOM Eternal expansion The Ancient Gods - Part One.
