Though Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will only be available to those that - takes breath - purchase the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales: Ultimate Edition which launches alongside the PlayStation 5 on November 12 for $124.95 AUD (RRP). Pricing and access aside, in a new post Insomniac's Community Director James Stevenson outlines what to expect in the remastered edition.

The most notable next-gen feature is of course real-time ray-tracing for reflections and ambient shadows. But the remaster also benefits from newer higher fidelity assets, improved models, "individually-rendered strands of hair", and an updated weather system. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will also take advantage of the near-instant loading times of the PS5 in addition DualSense controller features and Spatial 3D Audio.

In addition to this a Performance Mode is being added (that will no doubt remove or limit some of the next-gen visuals) that targets native 4K 60fps. As per the gameplay video below, the results are impressive. And smooth.

Interestingly as part of the remaster process Insomniac had to recast the face of Peter Parker with Ben Jordan taking on the role.

Not that we could picture anything other than Tobes McGobes when thinking about Petey Parker.

The standalone Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is also being released for PS4, though the remastered edition of the original is limited to the PS5 - with the upgrade path also behind a paywall. No doubt this is a touchy subject considering free next-gen upgrades are being offered across a wide range of titles. That said Insomniac has put a lot of work into Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered.
