In news that we would have assumed already happened during the
Sega Dreamcast era, it looks like in addition to the long-awaited release of
Shenmue 3 -- a Shenmue anime adaptation is also in production from Telecom Animation Film that will air on Adult Swim in the U.S. The 13-episode series will tackle the first game and part of the second and involve creator Yu Suzuki as Executive Producer.
And include elements cut from both games due to time or budget constraints. Fans won't need the reminder but the original Shenmue came out back in 1999, with the sequel Shenmue II arriving in 2001.
Here's our review of the first game.
That whole cut content stuff comes from a source close to the project, as the official announcement is a little light on detail -- outside of the cool cover art.
The third Crunchyroll and Adult Swim collaboration, based on the classic SEGA Dreamcast game series, will be a 13 episode series with animation production from Telecom Animation Film (Tower of God, Lupin the Third: Part 5), directed by Chikara Sakurai (Magimoji Rurumo, One-Punch Man Season 2). Shenmue creator and game designer Yu Suzuki will act as Executive Producer for the project.
And here's the art.
