Recently we had the chance to play through all three episodes of ILM's Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series on an Oculus Rift S, and the experience was very much like visiting Disneyland and experiencing an awesome Star Wars ride. That said it's as much of a game as it is an interactive spectacle, it's just that it only lasts a handful of hours. But, thanks to its great bit of cinematic Star Wars storytelling PlayStation VR fans are in for a treat when this launches August 25.
Here's the announcement trailer.
Vader Immortal is a cinematic, interactive experience that lets you step inside a galaxy far, far away into the role of a smuggler operating near Mustafar, the fiery planet that Darth Vader calls home. You’ll find yourself in a grand adventure where you can hone your lightsaber skills, navigate dangers, and come face to face with Vader himself.
As per the title there's plenty of Vader to be found which is part of the reason the experience feels somewhat like an amazing ride - it hits all of the notes you'd want as a Star Wars fan. The Dark Lord of Sith, a rogue-ish Smuggler getting embroiled in the struggle of others, mysterious artefacts and mystical histories, giant Rancors to deal with, and plenty of Stormtroopers to dispatch with a combo of lightsaber prowess and Force-pushing over ledges.
