We’re huge fans of Obsidian at AusGamers, a studio that has always somehow been on the verge of closure yet always releasing a solid string of hits. From Fallout: New Vegas to the crowdfunded Pillars of Eternity to lesser known gems like Tyranny. With The Outer Worlds already in the final stages of development when the studio was acquired by Microsoft, Avowed (presumably from the core Pillars team) is the studio’s next big RPG – a first-person AAA experience.
That said, all we have to go on so far is a pre-rendered trailer without gameplay – meaning this is still quite early in development.
Obsidian Entertainment is proud to present our next epic, first-person RPG set in the fantasy world of Eora.
On the plus side, The Outer Worlds is getting an expansion called Peril on Gorgon.
A severed arm and a mysterious message lead the crew of the Unreliable to the Gorgon Asteroid, formerly the site of one of Halcyon’s most ambitious and disastrous scientific undertakings, now a lawless den of monsters and marauders. Wealthy recluse Minnie Ambrose tasks the crew with finding answers about Dr. Olivia Ambrose, her mother and the doomed project’s disgraced director, but they are soon ensnared in an intrigue that will change the colony forever.
The first of two planned expansions arrives September 9.
