With developer
Psyonix making
the announcement earlier today noting that once
Rocket League goes free-to-play later "this Summer" (sometime in August presumably) it's primary PC platform will change from Steam to the Epic Games Store. A move that makes sense because Epic acquired Psyonix last year. Those playing on Steam though have noting to worry about as that version will still be there - new players on PC will have to go to EGS.
As per the announcement Psyonix reaffirms its commitment to cross-play.
Rocket League will release on the Epic Games Store on PC the same time it goes free to play. This version of the game will be identical to the version found on other platforms, and will feature cross-platform play anywhere you play Rocket League, including between the Epic Games Store and Steam.
Also, the team is revamping the menus and interface plus expanding Tournaments and Challenges and even adding cross-platform progression. This is where the move to EGS makes the most sense as thanks to Epic Games Account integration thinks like Rocket Pass unlocks and your Competitive Rank will be there on all platforms.
And for the many out there who own the game, you'll be rewarded with with Legacy status netting you:
All Rocket League-branded DLC released before free to play
"Est. 20XX" title that displays the first year you played Rocket League
200+ Common items upgraded to "Legacy" quality
Golden Cosmos Boost
Dieci-Oro Wheels
Huntress Player Banner
