Just in time for Halloween, the second installment in the horror series The Dark Pictures Anthology is set to release on October 30. As the follow-up to the very cool Man of Medan from last year, this time the story shifts to a small town, Salem witch trials, and support for an online two-player shared experience.

Plus, the return of the awesome 2-5 player couch-friendly movie night mode. Which is how we played Man of Medan, and although the game and story wasn't perfect - it still stands as one of the most engaging co-op experiences we've seen in a while. In that it's exactly like a movie night, but interactive.

Alongside the release date announcement we've also got the following cinematic trailer that showcases The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope's story.

In terms of horror this looks to me even more intense than Man of Medan. Over at the PlayStation Blog, Pete Samuels, Series Director & Executive Producer at Supermassive Games offers the following description of the story.
"Abandoned and all alone after their bus crashes in bad weather, four college students and their teacher become stranded in the isolated town of Little Hope. Trapped by a mysterious fog, they search desperately for a means of escape whilst terrifying visions from the past haunt them from the shadows. After bearing witness to the town’s gruesome past, and the terrible events of 17th Century Witch trials, hellish beings pursue them relentlessly. Trapped in Little Hope they try to figure out the motivation of these demonic apparitions before the evil forces at work drags each of their souls to hell."

Adding that movies like The Witch, Season of the Witch, and Blair Witch, served as inspiration alongside Clive Barker's Hellraiser and horror classic The Omen.

A collector's edition is also available to pre-order online, that offers the Little Hope game (PC Download, PS4, Xbox One), a collector’s box, a Dark Pictures Anthology world Cloth Map, two map pins, a steelbook (with 4 slots), and a replica of Mary's 1692 poppet (15 cm).

Having four slots in the steelbook probably means there are four games planned and in development for the anthology series. Interestingly those that pre-order will get access early access to the The Curator's Cut - which acts as a Director's Cut of sorts offering new scenes and even different playable characters.
