From Catchweight Studio, a one man studio based in Melbourne, you take on the role of a French soldier as you navigate trenches and struggle to find supplies during the First World War. With CD-ROM era presentation, a hefty dose of pixels, and some great animation, Conscript is due for release in 2021 on PC. But, the 23 year old hitory student behind the game needs your help to see it finished.

With a Kickstarter Campaign for the game now live - with a goal of $30,000 AUD. As part of the Steam Summer Gamns festival there's also a playable demo for Conscript you can check out right now -- which is exactly what we did last night. And why we were eager to share this one with you, it plays like a historical horror come to life -- and we'd love nothing more than to see it finished.

Here's the trailer which highlights exactly what we're talking about. That sound design is intense.

Fort de Vaux - Verdun, France, 1916. André is a young man conscripted into the French Army during the First World War - along with his younger brother Pierre. The two brothers find themselves in the midst of one of the most brutal conflicts in human history - fighting the opposing Germans over control of Fort Vaux during the Battle of Verdun. During a trench raid from the enemy forces, Andre is incapacitated and wakes to find his entire regiment either killed or missing. Pierre is nowhere to be found. In order to survive his search through the battlefield, he must navigate through trenches, forts, and tunnels whilst under constant threat from enemy attacks, shellings and gas warfare. Can you find your missing brother, and ensure a home goes unbroken?

With what developer JD describes as "oppressive sound design" and "psychological manifestations" in a "harrowing atmosphere" -- Conscript's blend of history and horror has been in development for over three years, and is a definite passion project for its creator.
