Going all the way back to the cinematic release of the very first Star Wars movie in 1977 (not that we were around), it spawned the very first dreamers that wanted nothing more than to hop into an X-Wing and take on a squadron of Tie Fighters. Since that time we've seen this dream come true across many classic games - from Tie Fighter on PC to Rogue Leader on the GameCube. And now Star Wars: Squadrons is coming to take that dream to the next level.

Played entirely from a first-person in-cockpit perspective, with VR support that will no doubt be incredible to experience, EA Motive has put together the following in-depth gameplay trailer for Squadrons. Visually it looks stunning, and the blend of single-player and multiplayer modes make it something that every Star Wars fan should check out.

Like, right now.

The second Death Star is gone, but starfighter pilots unite on both sides of the Galactic Civil War as it rages on in Star Wars: Squadrons.

Fight alongside your squadron to tip the scales in monumental fleet battles and compete in intense 5 vs. 5 dogfights. Get into the cockpit and triumph as a team by completing tactical objectives across known and never-before-seen battlefields, including the gas giant of Yavin Prime and the shattered moon of Galitan.

Customize the loadouts of starfighters such as the X-wing and TIE fighter and divert power between their weapons, shields, and engines as you roar into the fray. Immerse yourself in strategic multiplayer space battles and a thrilling Star Wars single-player story, seen from alternating perspectives between the New Republic and the Empire.

As per above, Squadrons looks to be doing it all the right way. X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter vibes with the in-cockpit detail being second to none. Dogfights whilst flying over a Star Destroyer? Check. Pulling of maneuvers that would make Wedge Antilles take note? Check. Plus, a story and single-player campaign that takes place right after the events of Return of the Jedi that covers the exploits of both the New Republic and the remnants of the Galactic Empire.

That, and cross-play support for PC, PS4, and Xbox One when it takes flight October 2.

Red Two standing by.
