Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, developed by Factor 5 and LucasArts was first released for the Nintendo 64. Its sequel, Rogue Leader for the GameCube was something of an action masterpiece. Before that, in 1994, there was Star Wars: TIE Fighter for PC which blended flight simulation with the act of being the villain in the popular space opera. Both brilliant for their own reasons, EA is now prepping Star Wars: Squadrons for reveal tonight.

This means we're on the cusp of getting our first look at the next slice of standalone digital Star Wars flying and dog-fighting at 1am tonight (June 16). Very cool.

Details are scarce and all we have to go on is the art and the tagline "pilots wanted". According to reports though the game is being developed by EA Motive, the same team behind Star Wars Battlefront II's campaign, and will feature both single-player and multiplayer. Again that's the rumour mill. But, with the art showcasing both an Imperial and Rebel pilot we're getting a definite X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter vibe, so here's hoping this is a lot more than an expanded version of the aerial and space dog-fighting found in Battlefront II.
