With the one due sooner promising to be "something new roar to life in the world of DiRT" with details expected to be revealed in the coming months. This project is being handled by a different Codemasters team than the usual DiRT Rally gang - and will be "a brand new experience". Where does that leave the definitive rally sim? Well, open for a new traditional racing game too.

The update, part of an open letter to the DiRT Rally 2.0 community, adds that the next DiRT Rally is early in development - but ambitious none the less.

We have big plans, driven by a passionate development team, solely tasked with taking the Rally series to even greater heights. You won’t hear about that for a while, but when you do... oh boy, will you be excited for what’s coming.

Interestingly the post concludes with the phrase "If in doubt... FLAT OUT" which could point to the new racing game being a spiritual successor to FLAT OUT and its particular brand of over-the-top demolition derby style racers.
