With NPCs and factions set to arrive in Fallout 76 all eyes are on Bethesda to see if they can turn-around the game with a feature many felt was missing at launch. And from what we've seen so far we're keen to head back to post-apocalyptic Appalachia. With two factions - the Settlers and Raiders - we now have details on how the reputation system will work.

With the general answer being - exactly how'd you'd like to see it in a Fallout RPG.

When you first meet the Settlers and Raiders, they will be hesitant to include you, a newcomer, in their affairs. The more you do to help a faction by offering information, taking down their enemies, and completing quests, the more you will prove you’re someone they can rely on and your reputation with that faction will increase. Eventually, you will rise through seven different reputation “ranks”, from Hostile or Cautious, to Neutral, Friendly, and Ally, among others.

In addition to story quests, players can expect daily faction quests, and general conversation responses to factor into reputation. Current standing will of course dictate how people treat you at the new towns of Crater and Foundation, in addition to what they will sell you - including access to faction-specific items. No word yet if you're able to max out the reputation with both factions at the same time, but we probably assume that's the case. An interesting mechanic would be having to side with either the Settlers or Raiders , which would then dictate how the new story plays out and what areas you're safe in.
