The long-awaited sequel and next entry proper in the
Age of Empires series is about to get a full reveal at
Microsoft's big
X019 event happening in London. And with
Xbox's Aaron Greenberg teasing a little something something.
Age of Empires IV.
And sure, it's the teasiest of teases, and we could sit here and speculate that the environment and detail will put this years ahead of most current real-time strategy games but we'll wait until tomorrow for that. What we will do is re-iterate that the team behind Age of Empire IV's development is none other than Relic - the studio behind the excellent Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games.
In fact, if the studio wasn't wholly owned by SEGA we'd speculate that Microsoft would announce that it was joining the Xbox Game Studios family ahead of the reveal. Age of Empires IV has been in development for a few years now so we should probably expect a 2020 release date and a meaty look at how it's shaping up.
