It's no secret that Rare and Microsoft attempted to release a HD remake of the classic N64 first-person shooter GoldenEye 007 for the Xbox 360, but couldn't quite sort out the licensing. In its place we got a pretty impressive Perfect Dark HD remake, and now thanks to some leaked gameplay we've got a good look at what looks to be the finished thing.

Which apparently was to be part of the Rare Replay collection and a behind the scenes look at GoldenEye. In this footage we can see the switch between old-time N64 visuals and the newly updated HD assets across a few of the iconic stages from the game.

The most interesting part is that outside of the environment textures, character models and details were also overhauled - so Natalya no longer looks like a low-polygon Scully fever ream.

Although it probably won't stand the test of time, and shooters on consoles have evolved quite a bit in the twenty-plus years since GoldenEye made its debut - it still would be nice to see this get the proper remaster or remake treatment. And release release it on the Switch too, in addition to a PC and Xbox version.
