Hey, what's this now? A story about the Australian ratings board that isn't about a game getting banned? Yep. And it's good news too, with the cult classic and hard to find Doom 64 being given an all-round 'M' rating for "Horror themes and violence". You can see the posting here.

This is great news as Doom 64 was built from the ground-up for the Nintendo 64 by Midway and by all accounts is a great version of id Software's classic. And a weird one too as it has its own story, look, and feel. Including a fresh dose of Nintendo 64-era fog.



First released in 1997, since then the only way to play it has been on Nintendo 64 hardware, via emulator, or the fan-made PC port called Doom 64 EX. The rating hints that Doom 64 will be getting a similar re-master and re-release ala the first two Doom titles which were recently released on console. Being the only Doom game to not get an official PC release, this is definitely one we'll be following up on when made official.
