Called Dynasty it will put players in control of three hero units, and three hero units only, as they face waves and waves of enemy troops to see how long they can survive. Described as an Arcade Mode for Total War: Three Kingdoms it has been designed in collaboration with Intel.

Which we assume comes down to being able to set enemy units sizes from 80 men up to a a massive 960 men - no doubt something that will push PC hardware to its limits.

Here's the teaser trailer.

Playable solo or with up to three others in co-op, the heroes will be far more powerful than the ones seen in the base game and will gain upgrades the longer they survive. Enemy generals will also spawn every third wave to add some additional spectacle, with performance tracked via a scoring system. Based on that description alone this is definitely a brand new way to play Total War, and could be very cool in co-op. Dynasty will be released for free to all owners of the game too, with a release date of August 8.
