Over the weekend, the annual San Diego Comic-Con took place, and among myriad announcements where geek culture is concerned, Netflix finally gave attendees, and the world, a first glimpse at its forthcoming The Witcher TV series, based on the books and writings of Andrzej Sapkowski and starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.
If I were an Internet kind of person, I'd say the trailer won over around 60% of punters, fence-sat a further 30% and divided the remainder. I personally sit within the 30% but will give it the requisite three episode watch to let it show its wares.
The idea of a beardless Geralt with just the one sword and an unrecognisable Yennifer, as well as a Ciri that doesn't look at all like the Ciri we now know and love, are my main issues with it so far, but the trailer at least teases monsters, potions, armies, witchcraft and more. Plus, what I expect of The Witcher is borne of CD Projekt RED anyway, so I need to park those fears and just give it a go.
Looks pretty good to me... nice production value... its based on the books not the games so expect many differences if you are used to the games only...
