As a stand-alone campaign pack for the excellent Total War: Three Kingdoms, Eight Princes, presses the fast-forward or chapter skip button 100 years later with a story that takes place in the aftermath of the Three Kingdoms setting. As per its namesake it introduces eight new playable princes each with their own play-styles and unique buildings.

The year is 291 CE, and a generation has passed since the tumultuous events of the Three Kingdoms period began. Despite the tripartite division of power which brought the conflict to a stalemate, and the brief unification of the kingdoms under the Jin dynasty, civil war is no more than a heartbeat away.

For the Jin is a dynasty divided. Its many ruling princes are hungry for greater power, each with ambitions – and methods – of their own. Eight stand above all others… will they rally to their emperor and empress? Or carve a legacy for themselves that will echo through the ages?

The campaign like with the main game is playable in either Records or Romance mode - the latter offering up more fantastical elements like superhero like generals. Also coming in the pack is a new elite unit in the form of cataphracts plus what's described as substantially different campaign mechanics. It's out August 8, and fore more details - including a rundown of each of the eight new princes - head to the Steam store page.
