In a new update on the upcoming September release of Gears 5, developer The Coalition has outlined the post-launch plans for the game. Confirming that the Season Pass is gone, alongside the random Gear Packs that were akin to loot boxes. In their place all DLC maps will be free with in-game purchases being direct.

Following the age old idea of seeing something and then paying money to get it - via a premium in-game currency called Iron. Gears 5 will also be implementing a season-like Tour of Duty with daily rewards, a clear progression path laid out with the option to also earn a limited amount of Iron. Accelerated progression packs or Boosters are coming too so it remains to be seen if the team nails the balance between earning rewards through play and forking out cash to reduce the grind.

Gears 5 continues the story laid out in Gears of War 4, and as per above is introducing a new Left 4 Dead style co-op mode called Escape to compliment the fan-favourite Horde mode.
