Described as the largest expansion for a State of Decay game so far, State of Decay 2: Heartland made its debut on the Xbox E3 2019 stage a few days ago. And it's out now for Xbox One, Windows 10, and via Xbox Game Pass. We also got more details on what to expect.
Compared to the more player-created narrative of the base-game Heartland is described as having its own narrative with branching paths for players to explore. This means limiting the characters players can control to two. The first being ex-con Quincy who will be accompanied by his partner Helena. With the second being Larisse, the daughter of local criminal Mickey Wilkerson, who will be accompanied by her aunt Fiona.
Heartland will offer up a new 10-hour campaign with enemies sporting new attacks as players struggle to survive. Here's a breakdown of the features.
Hand-crafted playable characters and NPCs
Two character-driven stories with branching paths and unique missions
New base facilities, unique to Heartland
Answers to many questions players have been asking about the world of State of Decay
Hints about the past and future of the game
Three never-before-seen freak variants (plague bloater, blood feral, and plague screamer), plus the blood juggernaut that previously appeared in the Daybreak Pack
New achievements worth 500 Gamerscore
Trumbull Valley also makes a return with players able to set up their home base at Jurassic Junction.
