With only a week left on its Kickstarter campaign, R-Type Final 2 aims to bring back the classic side-scrolling shooter series (or shmup) with modern visuals and old-school design. Developed by Granzella Inc., a small team out of Japan that includes some of the core talent behind the series, it looks impressive in its current form.

Where the game will employ first-person and in-cockpit views to set up each battle before switching to a side-on viewpoint. The following trailer showcases this new design approach and closes out with some classic R-Type Wace Cannon action.

If funded the game will have a tentative 2020 release window for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam). If you're a fan of the series be sure to check this out as the stretch goals include re-creating levels from R-Type II (1989), R-Type III (1993), and R-Type Delta (1998). Sitting at roughly 50% funded at the time of writing, we're definitely rooting for this one to reach the finish line.
