After a long hiatus the return of
Darksiders late last year was met with a mixed response. As per our
own review the return was mostly lackluster with only flashes of brilliance. With
E3 2019 around the corner a new Darksiders panel as part of the
E3 Colliseum showcase is scheduled to take place alongside a new Darksiders game that will "takes the franchise in a fresh direction".
Which probably means that is won't be called Darksiders 4. Or, if it will follow the numerical titles of the series the game itself will be a departure from Darksiders 3's linear exploration and Dark Souls-light approach to combat. The full panel description reads.
A discussion about the inception of the Darksiders universe and where it’s headed next. This panel will coincide with the E3 2019 unveil of a brand new Darksiders game that takes the franchise in a fresh direction. This is a panel discussion about the art and business of creating and maintaining an action adventure franchise rich in-game and corporate lore.
No word yet if Gunfire Games is back at the helm of this new Darksiders game, or exactly what direction it will take. With past entries have dabbled in The Legend of Zelda-like adventuring with added Diablo-style action-RPG combat and even punishing boss battles ala Dark Souls - a fresh direction would indicate none of the above.
