It was only
last month that
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that "we are developing something to look at" in relation to an adaptation of
BioWare's seminal
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - or KOTOR. A new report over at
Buzzfeed news that cites "three sources close to the project" claims that the first script of a planned KOTOR trilogy is close to being finished.
Which makes sense as trying to fit all of the events of KOTOR into a single film would be a fairly tall order.
With the writer in charge of the adaptation reported as Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar, Shutter Island, and Netlfix series Altered Carbon), representatives from Lucasfilm and Kalogridis didn't respond to Buzzfeed's requests for comment - so this isn't exactly a confirmation that the dream we've all held since 2004 is about to come true.
In terms of post Star Wars Episode IX films so far the only project that has been confirmed as on the cards by Lucasfilm in recent months is a new trilogy from Game of Thrones show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. In the past Lucasfilm announced a second trilogy from Episode VIII director Rian Johnson, but we havent heard anything about that for quite sometime. We're not sure where exactly a KOTOR trilogy would fit in timing wise, and if the scrips are currently being written - production could still be a while off.
But, as the game and its Obsidian developed sequel is set 4,000 years prior to the events of Star Ware Episode IV - no doubt it will look and feel quite different to recent crop of Star Wars films.
