Which as per the naming will be in charge of adapting popular
PlayStation videogame franchises and games into film and television productions. According to today's announcement the first slate of projects is already underway although details on what these will be is till under wraps.
There's no shortage of properties though, and just thinking about potential movies a TV series based on Sony properties the mind quickly wanders to Uncharted, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, and others. PlayStation chief Shawn Layden will oversee the new studio which will be headed up by Asad Qizilbash.
In a statement made to
The Hollywood Reporter, Layden, said, "We’ve got 25 years of game development experience and that’s created 25 years of great games, franchises and stories. We feel that now is a good time to look at other media opportunities across streaming or film or television to give our worlds life in another spectrum."
No doubt this is a smart move by Sony as it will allow them to oversee the quality of each new film a TV production in a way that has seen the company's suit of AAA releases in recent years shine.
