At a Bethesda Game Days panel at PAX East over the weekend, Bethesda Games Studios head Todd Howard briefly talked about the troubled launch of Fallout 76. Stating, "We knew we were going to have a lot of bumps coming out with the game, and we definitely had some, some of them a lot harder than even we anticipated."

You can view the comments at the 31:00 minute mark below, with Todd adding, "We had a lot of difficulties during development and sometimes those difficulties do show up on the screen. You never want them to." He doesn't go into specifics, Fallout 76's launch had more than its fair share of problems, but he does mention that Fallout 76 was the product of building a new studio in addition to all Bethesda Games Studios helping out with development. And that Fallout 76 was "a very new and different project for us".

Since launch Fallout 76 has received numerous patches that have fixed numerous bugs and issues. Last month the Wild Appalachia season of new content began bringing new quest-lines and modes to the game. As per the panel, the focus for Bethesda and Fallout 76 is the future - with support for the game planned for the foreseeable future. Todd Howard sees the game as a platform, one that will change as time goes on and in ways that the development teams may not be able to foresee.
