With all of the 16-bit SEGA Mega Drive collections released over the years - including the most recent one from last year - it was only a matter of time before the console got the official miniaturisation treatment. Today, the Sega Mega Drive Mini (Sega Genesis Mini in the U.S.) has been announced - which will come pre-loaded with 40 titles.

With the games announced so far including:
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • ToeJam & Earl
  • Comix Zone
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes

The addition of Gunstar Heroes, Castlevania: Bloodlines, and ToeJam & Earl certainly adds variety to the line-up which looks to be a mix of well-known, cult favourites, and even hard-to-find gems. According to Sega, the Mega Drive Mini Console will feature: 2 Wired Control Pads (with the original three-button configuration), USB Power Adapter, Power Cable, and HDMI Cable.

As we've seen third-part Mega Drives over the years presented in similar fashion, Sega promises that the Mega Drive Mini "delivers quality as only a 1st party product can". It launches September 19.

Australian RRP is set at $139.95 with pre-orders already open at JB Hi-Fi.
