Originally released for the Sony PlayStation console in the year 2000, as the last Final Fantasy title to hit the 32-bit machine before making the jump to PlayStation 2, it quickly became a fan favourite. And Final Fantasy IX is currently available to play or replay on all major platforms. With Square Enix set to release just about every classic Final Fantasy game in 2019, a new video series called Inside Final Fantasy takes a look at the development.
With stories and anecdotes from Shinji Hashimoto (Producer), Toshiyuki Itahana (Artist), Kazuhiko Aoki (Event Designer), and Nobuaki Komoto (Event Planner). Clocking in at around 20 minutes this is fine weekend viewing for fans of the series. Check it out.
All of it is genuinely fascinating with confirmation that having the game developed in Hawaii helped inject the world with a sense of fun, and that for Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi it was a conscious retrun to the series roots after more realistic and dark Final Fantasy VII.
As an ongoing series we can expect more of these deep dives into Final Fantasy history in the months to come.
