For reasons that sound a little weird. In that the studio feels the time is better spent fixing stability issues and that a reconnect feature "opens a lot of risk for players to abuse it". Err, okay. Being able to reconnect to a multiplayer game after being dropped or experiencing Australian Internet Issues is something that we assumed was on the cards for Apex Legends. Turns out, that's not the case.
That little nugget came via the latest community check-in from Apex Legends developer Respawn that also dropped the interesting statistic that over 355,000 players have been banned since launch. Which is a big increase over the 16,000 cheaters that were banned within the
first week.
In response to the issue of hacks and cheats, Respawn notes, "We take cheating very seriously and care deeply about the health of Apex Legends for all players. We are working on improvements to combat cheaters and we’re going to have to be pretty secretive about our plans. Cheaters are crafty and we don’t want them to see us coming."
The post notes that the team is still looking into and addressing PC crashing issues (which is another key reason people are asking for a reconnect feature), stating that they're meeting up with AMD in much the same way they met up with NVIDIA - to help improve the game on PC.
