Petroglyph Games is a veteran studio comprising of ex-Westwood Studios employees, who worked on seminal strategy releases like Command & Conquer and Dune II. Recently it was announced that the developer would be working alongside Funcom on a new real-time strategy game set in the Conan universe, and today we get our first look.
Called Conan Unconquered, the single and co-op RTS features base building and resource gathering but the aim is to defend your base from attacking waves of enemies in randomly generated maps.
The following behind-the-scenes video has some of the veteran Petroglyph developers talking about the creative process, with some early pre-alpha footage of the game in action.
Conan Unconquered is a fast-paced strategy game where players face wave after wave of enemies in ever-increasing numbers and difficulty. To withstand the savage hordes players must build an unconquerable stronghold and put up walls and other defensive measures to avoid utter destruction. While the game can be played entirely in single-player, two players can also play together online to build a shared stronghold while fending off the enemy hordes allowing for a unique, cooperative multiplayer experience.
Although it doesn't look to feature a more traditional mission-based RTS design, the layout and action looks impressive. The approach also seems to be more of an endless or repeatable multiplayer game.
