Or Summer, for the folks living on the northern hemisphere of this our Flat Earth. Ahem. Anytway, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night the spiritual successor to Castlevania from acclaimed designer Koji Igarashi is finally ready to make its debut on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this Winter 2019.

For those that have been following its release, the project began with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015 that raised over $5 million US dollars. The success there naturally increased the scope and ambition for the project, but even so a late 2017 release date was the target. Since that time it has been delayed a few times, whilst also looking better and better as new updates were released.

And with today's release window announcement we also get a new trailer that showcases the improved visual look. And that classic Castlevania-style gameplay.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a new gothic horror action side-scrolling RPG developed by Koji Igarashi’s indie development studio ArtPlay. Set in 19th century England, a paranormal force has summoned a demon-infested castle, revealing crystal shards infused with tremendous magical power. Players take on the role of Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse which slowly crystallizes her body. To save humanity and herself, Miriam must fight through the castle while collecting, crafting and unlocking a vast array of weapons, equipment and loot to defeat the summoner Gebel and the countless minions and bosses of hell that await.

  • IGAVANIA SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR – Koji Igarashi, one of the renowned godfathers of the genre, is creating a new, modern side scrolling action RPG experience that will satisfy long time Castlevania fans.
  • VAST AND DEEP GAMEPLAY – Unlock spells and powers, find, craft and upgrade several types of weapons and special items to change Miriam’s appearance, mix and match gear and abilities to find your playstyle.
  • HIGH FIDELITY 2.5 GRAPHICS – Everything in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is rendered in loving 3D detail on a 2D side scrolling environment that changes and evolves as you play.
  • ORCHESTRAL MUSIC BY INDUSTRY LEGENDS – Featuring music from industry icons Michiru Yamane (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon) and Ippo Yamada (Resident Evil, Mega Man).
  • IGA’S BIGGEST CASTLE – The Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night game world is the largest of Koji Igarashi’s entire career, with a map size nearly twice that of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
  • MULTIPLE CHARACTERS TO CHOOSE FROM – Aside from the enigmatic Miriam there are secret playable characters awaiting discovery.
