Firing up Final Fantasy VII today and no doubt you'll immediately notice the low resolution and pixelated look to the pre-rendered backgrounds. Also the fewer colours too. The new Final Fantasy VII Remako mod aims to fix that, thanks to the power of AI as it "uses AI neural networks to enlarge and enhance the pre-rendered backgrounds in the game".

Currently available for the PC version of Final Fantasy VII in beta form, you can check out the results in the following trailer. Pretty impressive stuff, with the mod utilising AI Gigapixel by Topaz Labs.

To download the mod head here, and for steps to get it running there's also this handy guide.
