Yesterday
we posted a bit about the Nintendo Switch's recent successes in the U.S., which also included word that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate had become the fastest selling Nintendo Switch title in that region. Well, looks like the game is performing even better locally - with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate becoming the fastest selling Nintendo home console game of all time in Australia and New Zealand.
Of course, adding the word home before console means that the milestone excludes Nintendo handhelds like the GBA, GBC, and DS - but it's impressive none-the-less. According to Nintendo Australia, the first three-days of Smash Bros. Ultimate sales were up over 80% from last year's holiday, err, smash - the equally excellent Super Mario Odyssey.
“We are thrilled that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now both the fastest-selling game in the series and our fastest-selling home console game in Australia and New Zealand,” notes Managing Director of Nintendo Australia, Kamon Yoshimura. “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the biggest Super Smash Bros. ever, and we look forward to bringing exciting experiences to players in 2019 with new games in the Animal Crossing and Pokémon series, alongside Yoshi’s Crafted World, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and more.”
It's the and more bit that has us excited. Metroid Prime 4 in time for the 2019 holidays would be pretty amazing. Dreams aside, it's great to see that the Nintendo Switch has found success built on a catalogue of excellent games.
