With the excellent Shadow of the Tomb Raider now out in the wild, and effectively closing out the trilogy that began with the 2013 reboot of the franchise, comes a weird Easter Egg that wasn't meant to be seen. Turns out that the pre-'Day One' patch of the game includes a post-credits ending that wasn't meant to be seen.
In that it includes Lara sitting in Croft Manor, with an unopened letter from Natla sitting on her desk. Natla, for fans of the series was the original antagonist back in the '90s original and hasn't been mentioned in the new trilogy. The revelation came via Tomb Raider Forums where a user posted the query. As most people have seen the patched ending, which also has a nod to the original via a childhood picture depicting a dinosaur and a pyramid - a mystery was born.
Here's the Natla ending.
Developer Eidos Montreal quickly made a statement regarding the ending, noting.
Tomb Raider developer statement: "Unfortunately one of the directions that was considered, but not chosen, was mistakenly included in the game. The Day One patch fixes this error, along with many other improvements."
Perhaps the inclusion of the Natla letter was a hint to where the series might be heading next, but as per the official statement it's not to be considered canon.
