The horrific incident took place at the Jacksonville Landing complex in Florida, where a competitive Madden 19 tournament was taking place. According to reports for the developing incident, the gunman opened fire while the event was live-streaming, resulting in the deaths of multiple people and leaving many more injured.

Authorities and several news outlets have identified the shooter as a competitor in the tournament, and one of those killed - he shot himself. One of those injured was identified as another competitor of esports team Complexity, Drini, who was shot in the thumb.

The event was officially sanctioned by EA who responded after news broke,

We are aware of an incident at a sanctioned Madden Championship Series competition in Jacksonville. We are working with authorities to gather facts at this stage.
