Well, ex-BioWare. The former creative director of the Dragon Age series, who also worked on classics like Jade Empire and Mass Effect is lending his considerable talent to Gato Salvaje Studio for the creation of a new fantasy RPG - The Waylanders. One that, in its pre-alpha state, looks a lot like Dragon Age and Baldur's Gate.
Mark Laidlaw is on board as a high level Narrative and Creative Consultant on The Waylanders, a new RPG that promises meaningful character and part development, romance, and a deep combat system. Which will include skill trees as per the early footage seen below.
The Waylanders is a party-based experience set in the Celtic and Medieval eras featuring innovative and technical combat to make it stand out all on its own. Real-time combat with a tactical pause option, The Waylanders can be played from the classic isometric, top-down view but can also be shifted into third person perspective. Featuring unique character creation and a massive 36 character classes based on six basic classes and 30 more advanced ones means every play style imaginable can be accommodated.
As for the time travel stuff, apparently that aspect of the game has been inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Very cool. Gato Salvaje is an indie studio based out of Spain and its ambitious The Waylanders project has a tentative release window of Q1 2020.
