Take-Two financials that have recently surfaced note a couple of milestones. First up the popular 2K sports series NBA 2K passed 10 million copies sold with the most recent addition NBA 2K18 - which set a new sales record for the franchise. Which brings total series sales to over 80 million copies sold worldwide for the top-rated NBA game.
“NBA 2K18 is our highest-selling sports title ever, and a testament to the tireless hard work and innovation of the team at Visual Concepts,” said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive. “The ability to improve consistently upon an annual series and grow its audience reflects the team’s drive to remain on the leading-edge of pop culture and finding new and exciting ways to captivate and engage players.”
“Without the tremendous passion, ambition, and dedication of the entire team at Visual Concepts, a milestone of this magnitude wouldn’t be possible,” said Greg Thomas, President, Visual Concepts. “It’s incredibly rewarding that the team’s hard work and desire to achieve greatness in NBA 2K has reached so many fans around the globe, and now we look forward to the challenge of setting new benchmarks with the upcoming release of NBA 2K19.”
In other Take-Two news comes the news that GTA V continues to sell like hot cakes thanks to the continued support of GTA Online and its micro-transactions. According to the financial report GTA V sales are closing in on 100 million copies sold, resulting in, well, growth and whatnot.
“This performance was driven by better-than-expected recurrent consumer spending on Grand Theft Auto Online and NBA 2K18," said Strauss Zelnick. "As well as robust ongoing demand for Grand Theft Auto 5, which is now approaching 100 million units sold-in to date."
