Now this is more like it. Not an expansion but part of the new Bilge Rat faction in-game events, The Sunken Curse has players exploring the underwater locations surrounding the many islands found in Sea of Thieves. Where Cursed Mermaid statues need to be found and destroyed in addition to loot now spawning underwater.

As visually impressive and beautiful the world in Sea of Thieves is, there has been a lack of reasons or incentive to explore the world - especially the detailed underwater caves and sea beds. As with previous events the new challenges will remain in the game once the event is over - but without doubloon rewards and special limited-time cosmetics. For an added challenge some of the Cursed Mermaids will require a crew of four to take out.

This is separate to the next expansion, Cursed Sails, which is due to be revealed next week. With the Sunken Curse now live and due to run until July 25 we expect the next expansion to drop shortly after - which in addition to NPC skeleton ships roaming the seas is also set to bring the long-awaited three-person Brigantine vessel to the game.
