Where the stylish Android-TV device from NVIDIA incorporates NVIDIA GameStream technology for smooth, low-latency streaming. In addition to 4K HDR video streaming through support for apps like Stan, Amazon Video, Netflix and YouTube. So yeah, definitely cool to see the latest version of this tech coming to Australia after making a debut overseas back in 2015.
“SHIELD TV combines upgraded performance, 4K HDR entertainment and GeForce GTX gaming to deliver an incredible streaming media device,” said Ali Kani, general manager of SHIELD at NVIDIA. “We received countless inquiries from the Australian market dating back to when SHIELD first launched, and we can’t wait to meet the demands of our most passionate fans.”
As an Adroid-based device the NVIDIA SHIELD TV will power all the most intensive Android games available via the Google Play Store. And as you'll be on the same network as your gaming PC (like say, our own
GeForce GTX 1070 Ti powered rig), you can also stream directly to a 4K display for comfortable couch gaming.
“The past five years have seen Australian’s viewing habits change dramatically,” said Greg Arthurton, head of consumer products division ANZ at NVIDIA. “The stars have aligned with the rise of on-demand television, growing 4K TV adoption, and an increase in 4K content from app providers, making it the right time to bring SHIELD to market.”
And with that out of the way, NVIDIA SHIELD TV is launching next month - although no specific release date was given. Two versions will be available starting at $249 AUD - one with a remote and another with a remote and game controller. Controllers will also be sold separately.
The NVIDIA SHIELD TV will launch both online via all the big computer retailers and also in select EB Games stores across Australia.
