Which when you factor in the nearly two-decade long run for the series that's pretty impressive. With the return of fan favourites like the Ice Climbers and Pokémon Trainer also comes some new additions including Ridley from Metroid and Inkling from the Splatoon series.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate took up a huge portion of Nintendo's E3 Direct presentation, with series creator and lead Masahiro Sakurai delving deep into what's coming - which includes a short teaser for every character. And just about every stage.

With such a huge roster the number of players has been increased to eight, and with it doubling as a celebration of the series support for original Nintendo GameCube controllers will be there day one. As will support for all current Smash amiibo figures. With day one being December 7, this year. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is developed by Nintendo, Sora, Ltd., and BANDAI NAMCO Studios.
