You'd be surprised just how many new, and admittedly cool looking, indie games get announced and released each month. So much so that it's virtually impossible to stay on top of it all. Thanks to the weird description of combat-racer and inspiration that includes Rollerball, The Hunger Games, and Starship Troopers, Speed Brawl is weirdly now firmly on our radar.

Especially when you throw in great 2D artwork and a teaser trailer that features some truly epic Saturday-morning cartoon music.

As for the game itself, the blend of keeping momentum during combat sounds like fun. With developer Double Stallion being somewhat relentless in its influence name-drops, "We always knew we wanted to make a physics-and-fisticuffs experience that would feel like Thundercats or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, about a team of people who go through an extraordinary challenge and realize that fighting as a team is better than fighting alone."

We'd also throw Mega Man X in there too.

Speed Brawl takes place in a dystopian London and will offer single or co-op multiplayer both local and online as players tackle the campaign. Interactive objects, physics, and up-gradable heroes are expected. And although the teaser doesn't include gameplay footage, the following screens hint at quite the impressive 2D world.

Speed Brawl is coming to PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam this winter.
