After a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, Descent spiritual successor Overload finally has a release date of May 31 for PC. With a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release happening later in the year. As per its inspiration Overload offers the six-degrees of freedom made popular by '90s spaceship FPS thing Descent.
Overload also comes from Revival Productions a studio founded by the creators of Descent.
“We started Overload as a nostalgic homage to Descent, but it’s really grown into something more. We were able to create a deep story with voice, a new challenge mode and add VR support. And all this is on top of graphics and sound we could only dream about 20 years ago,” said Mike Kulas, co-creator, Revival Productions. Overload features a full single-player campaign with 15 levels in addition to multiplayer modes.
A playable teaser is also available right now on Steam, so if you're wondering what Descent might look like in 2018 - now's your chance.
